A couple’s clever method of getting back at their neighbors, who had been setting off fireworks until the early hours of the morning, has gained viral popularity on TikTok with 7.2 million views and garnered comments like “The best idea ever!”
The combination of fireworks and pets often leads to distress and anxiety among furry companions, particularly during the summer holiday season. In the worst-case scenario, pets may become frightened and run away. In this particular incident, the couple can be seen sitting in their pool while their two American Bully dogs, Annabelle and Norman, bark loudly in the background.
“The incident occurred on the morning of July 4th,” shared the dog owners, who wished to remain anonymous, in an interview with . “We woke up early and decided to take a dip in the pool with our dogs. We noticed how noisy they were being, and although we initially tried to stop them from barking, we jokingly contemplated seeking ‘payback.’ Most commenters assumed the fireworks were set off on the 4th, and we posted the video on the 5th. However, the actual fireworks occurred during the night of the 3rd into the early hours of the 4th, and we shared the video on July 4th.”
According to PetAmberAlert.com, more pets go missing around the Fourth of July than any other time of the year. The organization assists owners in reuniting with their lost pets. Disturbingly, between 30 to 60 percent of lost pets end up being euthanized as they cannot be returned to their rightful owners.
The dog owners disclosed that the fireworks had frightened their dogs. “Annabelle usually seeks refuge under the bed,” they explained. “Norman used to tremble whenever he heard fireworks, but he has grown accustomed to them now and simply pants when it becomes too overwhelming. Fireworks are quite common in our town during the summer, with someone setting them off almost daily in early July.”
The couple revealed that their dogs now eagerly search for fireworks as soon as it gets dark. “They gaze at the sky in anticipation. If the situation becomes unbearable, we bring them indoors earlier and place them in their crates.”
Interestingly, the couple faced no negative repercussions from their neighbors. “There has been no reaction from any of our neighbors,” they confirmed. “We highly doubt they even heard our dogs barking that morning.” Meanwhile, the majority of TikTok users supported the couple’s actions.
