Bubbles, who once endured mistreatment and lost an eye, has now embarked on a journey of joy and fulfillment. When she was just six months old, she suffered a horrific incident—a callous person shot her, resulting in the loss of her eye and part of her jaw. As if that weren’t enough, she endured further brutality, as diagnosed by medical professionals.
Fortunately, a Houston, Texas dog shelter intervened, rescuing Bubbles and providing her with a new lease on life. They conducted thorough examinations, including a CT scan that revealed the trajectory of the gunshot.
Regrettably, the bullet had caused severe damage to her inner ear, resulting in the loss of her right eye and a portion of her jaw. However, despite a lengthy recovery process, Bubbles managed to overcome these challenges, thanks to the unwavering support of compassionate individuals who dedicated themselves to her well-being.
Ike Blanchard and Kilyn Horton Blanchard, owners of a mobile dog grooming business, selflessly volunteered to care for Bubbles. She is an affectionate and playful dog who adores interacting with children. In 2017, upon learning of her plight,
the couple felt compelled to help. Kilyn shared, “Bubbles had fractured her right jaw joint, and the broken bones had fused together. The opening of her mouth was only about an inch and a half wide. It’s astonishing that she can eat.”
Initially intending to foster the puppy, Ike and Kilyn quickly fell in love with Bubbles’ resilient spirit and unwavering will to live. They made the decision to adopt her, providing her with a loving home where she could continue her recovery in an environment filled with constant care and attention.
Kilyn cherishes the emotional memory of Bubbles’ adoption. As they opened her kennel, the drowsy pup immediately emerged, resting her head on Kilyn’s chest and purring for a comforting cuddle.
Bubbles’ heartwarming journey resonated deeply with people across the globe, transcending borders. Today, she is healthy and content, leaving her injuries behind after four years of remarkable recovery. She radiates happiness and eagerly wags her tail while grinning, especially when she helps others.

“We are currently working on encouraging her to collaborate with other animal rescue groups, visiting schools to educate children about treating animals with kindness. We want to emphasize her future, showcasing that her horrific past does not define her. But we also aim to share her story and promote kindness and goodwill towards all.”
