When people surrender dogs to an animal shelter, it’s not too uncommon to later find out that the dog actually belonged to somebody.
A lot of the time, people will not put a collar or a microchip on their pets and it ends up resulting in a lot of problems. Other times, the shelter staff will make a mistake and no one will know that the dog belonged to somebody.
In this story, we will talk about a family who accidentally stumbled upon their long lost dog in a shelter.
Meet Juicee
To the staff working in Austin Animal Center, Juicee seemed like an ordinary dog when she was surrendered there. She was really calm and happy. The staff had assumed she was a stray dog because there was no microchip or collar on her.
She ended up spending almost a year there and no family had shown interest in adopting her, so the staff decided to post her pictures on Facebook and promote her story.
Kelsey Cler, who works for the organization, told The Dodo: Juicee was in great condition when she was first brought in. She was hesitant with strangers and showed some touch sensitivity. Her kennel presence wasn’t great, which contributed to her long stay.
Some time had passed and Juicee softened up to the workers there, and they also loved spending time with her.
She also spent a lot of time with other dogs in the shelter, and it was clear that she was very high spirited.
However, the staff wanted to find her a true home and a family that would love and care about her.
Juicee’s Heart Wrenching Story
In 2021, Juicee was living her best life. She had a real family that loved her. However, on one eventful day, she got separated from them and their neighbor told them that their dog had died.
It’s really unclear why he did this, but Cler speculates that: There can be a lot of prejudice around pit bull ownership. We can really only speculate on why the neighbor didn’t want the dog reunited with her family.
The family later moved to Miami and tried to continue on with their life. However, one family member was still a part of a Facebook group where Juicee’s photo had popped up a year later.
This came as a huge shock for the family because they assumed that he had been dead for over a year.
They drove for 20 hours straight back to Austin just to reunite with him. Cler said: Juicee was SO HAPPY! No hesitation or touch sensitivity with her family — she was all over them, and they were all over her.
Their reunion was just one of the most beautiful moments anyone had ever seen. Shortly after this, the family took the dog and went back home to Miami.
Even though it may seem like Juicee has lost a lot of time with her real family, she is just so happy to see them again, and she quickly realized that her life will be back to normal.
