Canines are undoubtedly some of the most innocent beings on our planet. They find joy in the simplest things, like taking a stroll or eagerly awaiting their owners’ return from work. For most dogs, nothing compares to being out in nature, but this isn’t always easy for those with disabilities. Such dogs face challenges that other dogs can navigate with ease. Hilly terrain, thick foliage, and even bodies of water can present obstacles too difficult to overcome with the aid of a canine wheelchair.
It’s unfortunate that beaches, which offer endless stretches of sand and ocean, may not be accessible to all, including dogs. It’s a bummer because most dogs love spending time at the beach and experiencing that unexplainable feeling of happiness that comes with it. Interestingly, dogs feel this emotion even more intensely than humans. Salima Kadaoui recognized this and was committed to ensuring that her 18 dogs, who have disabilities, would have the opportunity to enjoy the beach just like any other pooch.
Salima established the SFT Animal Sanctuary in Tangiers, Morocco, where she rescues dogs that have been hit by cars and abandoned. Many of these furry friends have suffered lifelong injuries, but Salima doesn’t give up on them. She firmly believes that they can still enjoy a good life if they learn to adjust to their new circumstances. On the 4th of July, Salima demonstrated the impressive results of rehabilitation by taking some of her dogs on a fun trip to the beach. Although their hind legs were non-functional, the dogs ran alongside Salima with great enthusiasm from one end of the beach to the other.
Picture a scene where you’re napping on a sandy beach, and suddenly you hear a commotion. You look up and see 18 dogs in wheelchairs zooming past you! The canines come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from a tiny corgi to a majestic German shepherd. It’s fascinating to witness how the doggy wheelchair has become a life-saving gadget for these furry friends. Despite their inability to use their hind legs, the wheelchairs enable them to run as fast as their non-disabled peers.
The atmosphere is filled with humor when a corgi snatches Salima’s shoe and shakes it vigorously before giving it back to her. In another video, a mischievous pup takes the wheel off his mate’s wheelchair, but even that doesn’t slow them down!
It’s amazing that technology can aid animals in such a way that they can enjoy their lives to the fullest, just like any other dog.
It’s clear that Salima has created a joyful group of pups who are living their best lives. These dogs exude confidence and positivity, reminding us humans to learn from them. Instead of constantly comparing ourselves to others and wanting what we don’t have, we could benefit from adopting the dogs’ carefree attitude. Even without any physical limitations, many humans still struggle with this concept.
